On my way into work in the mornings, I usually listen to Bill Bennett’s “Morning in America” radio program. This morning he interviewed, Jill Stanek, a fascinating guest who had some additional disturbing information to share about Barack Obama. As a nurse at Christ Hospital in Chicago, Jill had the heartbreaking experience of holding and rocking an aborted baby born alive at the hospital, during the last 45 minutes of his life. Through that experience, Stanek because an ardent pro-life activist who actually had run-ins with then Illinois state senator, BO regarding needed legislation to provide protection for any child (even an aborted one.) Jill was in no way attempting to change anything about any laws related to abortion. Her desire was to protect innocent children. Read some excerpts from her blog, below. Following that is the audio of the interview I heard on Bill Bennett’s show. It is 15 minutes long, but worth every minute.
In March 2002, then Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama and I engaged in an interesting exchange during my testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which he was a member. I was speaking in favor of the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act for the second time, which had failed the year before. The previous year, I had told Obama and the committee of my experience holding a live aborted baby until he died in my capacity as a labor and delivery nurse at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill. That year, I described Christ Hospital’s Comfort Room, unveiled in December 2000 to counter my public statements that personnel were shelving babies to die in the department’s soiled utility room next to dirty linens, bloody and biohazardous waste, and a urinal:
Four months ago, Christ Hospital unveiled its “Comfort Room.” So now I can no longer say that live aborted babies are left in our Soiled Utility Room to die. We now have this prettily wallpapered room complete with a First Foto machine, baptismal gowns, a footprinter and baby bracelets, so that we can offer keepsakes to parents of their aborted babies. There is even a nice wooden rocker in the room to rock live aborted babies to death.
I did not mention the Comfort Room when I testified again in 2002. But Barack Obama remembered.

Of over 4,000 pieces of legislation introduced in the Illinois General Assembly in 2001, Obama apparently recalled my description of Christ Hospital’s Comfort Room. He stated, according to the State Net transcript:
Ms. Stanek, your initial testimony last year showed your dismay at the lack of regard for human life. I agreed with you last year, and we suggested that there be a Comfort Room or something of that nature be done. The hospital acknowledged that and changes were made and you are still unimpressed. It sounds to me like you are really not interested in how these fetuses are treated, but rather not providing absolutely any medical care or life to them.
Obama had actually not agreed with me the year before. He had agreed with ACLU attorney Colleen Connell that “living is not the same as viability” when he voted against Born Alive in committee and went on to be the sole senator speaking against it on the Senate floor.
And “we” suggested the Comfort Room? I was the one who told him about the Comfort Room four months after the fact, also providing photo evidence.
What was going on? Obama hadn’t been coached had he, perhaps by fellow Trinity United Church of Christ member Dr. Jane Fisler-Hoffman, who also happened to sit on the board of Christ Hospital’s parent company, Advocate Health Care?
![]() |
Or by Rev. Dr. Ozzie Smith Jr., another Advocate board member and former associate pastor at TUCC under Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Or by Wright himself, who sat on the board of Christ Hospital’s parent company from 1986-89? Or by Christ Hospital CEO Carole Schneider, a TUCC member? Or by fellow state Rep. Renee Kosel, a Christ Hospital board member who opposed Born Alive on the House side? I’d like Sen. Obama to tell us whether he received counsel from any of the aforementioned to oppose Born Alive.
Obama may have thought it impressive to wrap the baby one was killing in a blanket surrounded by silk flowers rather than leave him naked on a steel sink sideboard, but he was right – I was nonplussed. I responded:
What the hospital did was try to make things look better. What it really is, is that the baby is still dead.
I didn’t know it then, but I was describing future presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign: attempting to repackage liberal extremism to look comforting. In this case, however, Obama was pleased with a neonatal Soylent Green killing room, taking American liberal extremism to a new place.
My note: honestly, the thought of the “Comfort Room” and BO’s lockstep agreement with this crazy “solution” to the issue of a living, breathing child allowed to just die, is actually beyond my comprehension. He does really frighten me. This whole “Comfort Room” thing is very “Soylent Green“-ish; a chilling (albeit outdated) movie that I never, ever thought could even approach becoming reality…and now through the blocking of legislation and introduction of liberal non-solutions at the hands of a BO can be seen on the horizon.
All I can say is, “Maranatha*, Lord Jesus.”
Here is the audio clip of Jill and Bill: Audio clip
*Come quickly; He is coming soon…

He makes me sick…that is very disturbing.
The thing is, is that those babies that are that far along, are not usually aborted just because. They are babies who are aborted either becuase of the mother’s health or their health. Sometimes there is just no other choice. That’s why there is a comfort room- for grieving parents. You know, that even McCain agrees with abortion in the case of health of the mother, so this comfort room is often necessary. I am pro-life, but there are certain situations where abortion is a necesary evil. Look at my friend who had siamese twins, conjoined at the head. They shared a brain, they had no faces, there was no chance for life. My friends life was in danger by continuing the pregnancy. My friend is a Christian and pro-life. She went to multiple doctors and found one who would inject a shot in the embilical cord to “put the babies to sleep” so they wouldn’t suffer. She had no choice, but to abort. She would have liked a comfort room. She named the babies Hope and Joy.
I actually just went to Obama’s website, to the fact check section and found this article. Here are the acusations and the facts:
Fact Check on CNN and Bennet’s Inaccurate Claim That IL ”Born Alive” Legislation Obama Opposed Was the Same as Federal Legislation He Supported
June 30, 2008
BILL BENNETT: “Carol’s piece was good; it was accurate, except there’s one more thing you need to know. The 2003 bill, the more you look into this, the worse it is for Barack Obama to deny it because if you look into the record – and Carol did a good job – you will see the 2003 bill had exactly the same language as the federal bill, and Barack Obama voted against it. This was not about Roe v. Wade, this was not about abortion; this was about protecting these babies when they are alive, after seven months, five months, six months, whether it be an abortion or through birth or through any other means. Barack Obama, what he’s saying is just false. Check the record. The more you dig into it, the worse it looks. He should just say whatever he wants, something else. ‘I was naive, I didn’t realize how close it was to the federal act.’ He cannot say it was different from the federal act. It was the same.” [CNN, 6/30/08]
REALITY: Illinois and Federal “Born Alive” Legislation Were Not the Same, Which Is Why NARAL Did Not Oppose Federal Legislation
Illinois And Federal Born Alive Infant Protection Acts Did Not Include Exactly The Same Language. The Illinois legislation read, “A live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate protection under the law.” The Born Alive Infant Protections Act read, “Nothing in this section shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being ‘born alive’ as defined in this section.” [SB 1082, Held in Health and Human Services, 3/13/03; Session Sine Die, 1/11/05; BAIPA, Public Law 107-207]
NARAL Did Not Oppose Federal BAIPA Because of Its Clear Legal Difference Between A Fetus In Utero Versus A Child That’s Born. NARAL Executive Vice President Mary Jane Gallagher said, “We, in fact, did not oppose this bill. There’s a clear legal difference now between a fetus in utero versus a child that’s born. And when a child is born, they deserve every protection that this country can provide them.” In a statement, NARAL said, “Consistent with our position last year, NARAL does not oppose passage of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. Last year’s committee and floor debate served to clarify the bill’s intent and assure us that it is not targeted at Roe v. Wade or a woman’s right to choose.” [CNN, 8/5/02; NARAL release, 6/13/01]
Chicago Daily Herald: Major Difference Between State And Federal BAIPA Was That “The Federal One Stripped Out Any Language That Could Have Been Used To Challenge” Roe V. Wade. “Perhaps on no other issue is Keyes’ rhetoric against Obama as harsh as on abortion. Keyes repeatedly accuses Obama of favoring ‘infanticide’ because of Obama’s vote against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. The failed measure would have required doctors to provide medical attention to fetuses born alive during a rare type of abortion procedure. Keyes pointed out a similar measure sailed through Congress. But there was a major difference between the state and federal versions: the federal one stripped out any language that could have been used to challenge the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion legalization decision. Despite that, Keyes continues to hammer Obama with the “infanticide” charge virtually daily on the campaign trial. Obama, who pointed out state law already required doctors to care for fetuses born alive during botched abortions, said he’s “deeply offended” by Keyes’ assertion because he knows it’s false. Beyond that, Obama would have voted against the ban on late-term abortions that Bush signed – but federal judges since have put on hold – and Keyes would have voted for it.” [Chicago Daily Herald, 9/20/04]
REALITY: Obama Said He Would Have Supported Federal Born Alive Legislation Because It Made a Distinction Between a Fetus in Utero and Child That is Born
Obama Said He Would Have Supported Federal Born-Alive Legislation. The Chicago Tribune reported, “Obama said that had he been in the US Senate two years ago, he would have voted for the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, even though he voted against a state version of the proposal. The federal version was approved; the state version was not. Both measures required that if a fetus survived an abortion procedure, it must be considered a person. Backers argued it was necessary to protect a fetus if it showed signs of life after being separated from its mother…the difference between the state and federal versions, Obama explained, was that the state measure lacked the federal language clarifying that the act would not be used to undermine Roe vs. Wade.” [Chicago Tribune, 10/4/04]
BORN ALIVE PRINCIPLE WAS ALREADY THE LAW IN ILLINOIS
Illinois Law Already Stated That In The Unlikely Case That An Abortion Would Cause A Live Birth, A Doctor Should “Provide Immediate Medical Care For Any Child Born Alive As A Result Of The Abortion.” The Chicago Tribune reported, “‘For more than 20 years, Illinois law has required that when ‘there is a reasonable likelihood of sustained survival of the fetus outside the womb, with or without artificial support,’ an abortion may only be performed if a physician believes ‘it is necessary to preserve the life or health of the mother.’ And in such cases, the law requires that the doctor use the technique ‘most likely to preserve the life and health of the fetus’ and perform the abortion in the presence of ‘a physician other than the physician performing or inducing the abortion who shall take control of and provide immediate medical care for any child born alive as a result of the abortion.’” [Chicago Tribune, 8/17/04]
Illinois Law Stated That A Doctor Must Preserve The Life And Health Of A Fetus If In The Course Of An Abortion, There Is Reasonable Likelihood Of Sustained Survival. The Illinois Compiled Statutes stated that any physician who intentionally performs an abortion when, in his medical judgment based on the particular facts of the case before him, there is a reasonable likelihood of sustained survival of the fetus outside the womb, with or without artificial support, shall utilize that method of abortion which, of those he knows to be available, is in his medical judgment most likely to preserve the life and health of the fetus. No abortion shall be performed or induced when the fetus is viable unless there is in attendance a physician other than the physician performing or inducing the abortion who shall take control of and provide immediate medical care for any child born alive as a result of the abortion. Subsequent to the abortion, if a child is born alive, the physician required to be in attendance shall exercise the same degree of professional skill, care and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as would be required of a physician providing immediate medical care to a child born alive in the course of a pregnancy termination which was not an abortion. Violation of these statutes constituted a Class 3 felony. [Illinois Compiled Statutes, 720 ILCS 510/6]
That makes me sick! I am trying not to vomit as I write this.
Becky,
you’re probably one of the well-intentioned fans of abortion that support Obama and listen to his rhetoric and believe it like the Gospel, pun intended.
You probably haven’t considered the possibility that Obama would lie right through his teeth, and I don’t blame you – that’s a hard thing to confront.
Sadly, you’re wrong, and he does. And here is your Road to Damascus moment:
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/08/11/infanticide-revisited/
Go. Read. Learn. Vote McCain.
Or vote for Obama fully informed of the undeniable fact that he is a radical leftist and a bald-faced liar.
I think it is wonderful how Barrack Obama can make a nice
little room for those slimey little pieces of “tissue”
to breathe their last breaths. Such pretty wall paper and all…
I also think it is fantastic how the nurses and doctors are all in on it.
Only the deadest of consciences could even conceive of such a “comfort”.
This only shows how truly wicked Obama is and how far off the
deep end he has gone.
May the LORD make a special “comfort room” for all who
participate in this unspeakable heinous attempt to wash over
such cruelty. Not only the first act of aborting a little baby boy or girl but then a nice little room to let them cry their last agonizing tears in case they survive the first butchering !!!
And Becky you are just as culpable and wicked as Obama.
May you repent of your sin before it is too late
There is a place of extreme discomfort prepared for you and those like you who will not repent before a HOLY GOD.
I had a stillbirth at 18 weeks, my son had trisomy-18. I had to fight the hospital here to not have him conveniently-for-them dismembered and discarded. I wanted to hold him and mourn for him and grieve his death with dignity and invite the comfort of family and friends and have a memorial. His life, though short was not insignificant. When he was born, he accidentally fell from my womb all forlorn and broken on the floor and I will never forget the feeling of horror as I stared at him there. I had so desired dignity to be a part of his death. I felt, this is how God feels, the same tearing grief at his creation being treated like trash. He wants every child, whether destined to live for seven minutes or 70 years to be treated with dignity.
I had a D@C later to correct hemorraghing, and I will never forget the scornful look of a doctor who came in later, as I was mourning the death of my son. “So you had a D@C after all, she said triumphantly. I just stared at her. I said nothing. She slunk out of the room.
This is the mind, exposed in all its’ lewd lust for death,of those who love their right to execute babies in the womb. They think they champiom choice for women, but in their hatred of God they are thrilled when the choice is death, and incensed when the choice is life, so caught in their delusion they will stop at nothing, not even to intrude upon the private suffering of a grieving mother. This is the agenda Obama champions. I think that his conscience is beyond calloused, it is seared.
I lost a child to miscarriage/spontaneous abortion but I understand that it happens for a reason. That is how nature works. It took a long to get past that event and it was only 8 weeks into the pregnancy. I can’t tell you exactly how my wife felt at the time but I know she was sad for a long time.
If medical necessity requires aborting a baby that late into the term then by all means try to save it. If it can live outside the womb, even in an incubator, then let it live. But just how many of these actually take place?
You people act as if Obama is some Spartan, ready to toss unhealthy children in a pile. No, he is a lawmaker trying to protect the rights of women. These rare late-term abortions seem to be the battle line at the moment so any push he makes then he will be label pro-infanticide.
@Karen, I am sorry for your loss but I do not understand your feelings about it and God. God made you have a spontaneous abortion and you say he wants dignity for your baby? Where is the dignity in having a genetic defect so bad that the child cannot live? Who causes spontaneous abortions? Nature or God? God cannot be loving and caring and at the same time cruel by causing genetic defects. I apologize if this sounds like an attack, I just don’t understand the logic.
@Doubting Foo, I understand your reasoning but as a Christain I believe that man bought death and suffering into the world through his disobedience to God, therefore he works inspite of all this his good purposeses wether you believe it or not, and If you really think God is so cruel read the gospel re: Jesus.
As a Christain My concern is not so much a room where a mother can grieve for her loss, due to unforseen circumstances, but this practice can be abused and is abused by callous women who have no thought for their unborn whatsoever, how many stories have I read about these bitches who have late abortions and walkaway and leave their offspring to die or a nurse with compassion gives him/her treatment in the case of one such Girl who had cerabal palsy as a result of her mothers cruelty.( the late abortion)?
Loads!
There is no law stopping women having late abortions for reasons other then medical, they can just say they are mentally unfit or they had no money to begin with, etc..
I just wish these women had the infertillity and not those who want kids but can’t have any!
I REALLY wish they would not call it a Comfort Room. I think it will confuse many people from asia. You see in many asian nations a bathroom is called a Comfort Room or CR. If you ask for a bathroom or restroom they don’t know what you mean, but if you ask for a comfort room they all know.
Too bad they don’t have a unique name for this horrible place. I found this blog cause it talked about BO in the comfort room….and that could mean something quite different to people who don’t know about this.

God Bless all the aborted babies, God Bless those involved, God Bless the author and the commentators of this post, and God Bless Barack Obama.
My Prayer is they all receive discernment from the eyes of our Father in heaven.
Wow, thank you for an amazing post. I have been truly enlightened about even more of Sen. Obama’s views. Just another reason he will not get my vote.
Doubting Foo – The God I serve IS a loving God. Yes, bad things do happen to good people but bad things happen to bad people too. We are fallen and broken people. I wouldn’t expect you to understand all of who God is unless you are Christian. It is complicated. Great theologians have debated some of the very same things you are questioning for centuries and sometimes there just isn’t and answer other then sin in the world. But, in no way do I think God punishes people while living on earth. The only punishment handed down now is hell and that is one place I don’t want to go.
Jason Dragon – You live in America not Asia. Stop trying to be so PC. The title Comfort Room seems appropriate to me and in fact the comparison of a restroom never crossed my mind. The unique name is Comfort Room.
Thank you, Jason; I actually immediately thought of a restroom when I read the term “Comfort Room.” A name change would be nice for me, although I can see how the difference in cultural vernacular justifies it.
And Sam, although this is only my opinion, it seems to me a bit two-faced to express your own views and opinions on something like religion, but then come down on someone for their view and opinion on semantics and vernacular. Not telling you how to live your life; just expressing -my- view and opinion on the matter.
Seems to me the room should be called a torture chamber….after all it is where a child dies…not a comfortable death but a death laden with rejection and discomfort. The only good thing is that hopefully the person holding that child would hold the child tenderly, singing or talking gently to the child providing some form of comfort as life slowly drains away. Even then it still is not a “comfort room” but a torture chamber.
I find it truly amazing, truly. God is a Loving God, that’s why he’s killed so many people in hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods over the past few years. SO, with that said, there’s NO POSSIBLE WAY that a child could be born with defects that prevent it from living, or threaten the health of the mother. It’s just impossible.
People in government take the stances on issues of the groups that give them the most money. Just look at how many anti-gun control congressman have been run out of office by the NRA for supporting a gun control bill that actually made sense. So if that makes one evil, then at the very least EVERY politician that ever took money to vote a certain way on an issue is evil, i.e. ALL OF THEM. I just love how people can make a saint of one politician for a single view, and claim that another is the devil in men’s clothing for their own stance on an issue. People in general need to step outside of their happy little world where their opinion is the only right one, and no one else is allowed to have one, and start seeing the forest for the trees. If everything is set before it happens, all being a part of God’s plan, then since it is after all HIS plan that someone commits an act that others see offensive, why is it that this person is now inherently evil? Am I the only one who has ever wondered that? Either way, people need to take the time to think before blasting others with threats of eternal damnation just because their opinion is different, and now with that being said, I would like to say “see you there” to the countless people who will soon be telling me I’m wicked and will burn in hell for having my own view on something. If God is truly a loving God, then he will realize that I have committed no sin in having my own thoughts on something, so why would he punish me? Did he punish Galileo for having his own thoughts on the solar system just because they were different than that of everyone around him? I would sure hope not.
I dont know how anyone could be so heartless and do that to an unborn child. I look at my little boy everyday and am just amazed by him. He is so amazing and i cant imagine my life with out him.
Although it’s complicated whether or not the bill would have possed s substantive threat to roe v wade, (even though he’s wrong about it, I’m sure Obama believed it did) what disgusts me is that he’s willing to kill the babies we can all agree on just to preserve this “right.” Is legalized abortion something worth killing for? And though it may have created a legal issue, is there really a chance this bill actually would have led to a reversal of Roe v Wade? Looking at the SC back then, definitly not.
I don’t think we understand the ripple effect our individual and collective sin has in our own lives and in our society. It is the un-holy and un-healthy choices we make that bring destruction upon our lives and the lives of those around us. Yes, abortion is legal in this country, and Roe v. Wade will not be overturned, it will only go to the state-level decision. We got what we wanted in this country, the right to kill our children. But what have we reaped? Listen everyone, God will not be mocked- we will reap what we sow. Be careful what you sow. This is why I vote pro-life, and I am voting for McCain.
First of all, I would like to address “I’m gonna be THAT guy here”. I understand your view. I am a Christian and I love the Lord. I find myself asking God why he allows death, pain, destruction and such into our lives. I like to think I have a close relationship with God, as I depend on him every day to get me through life. Therefore, I just know that the way this world exists today is NOT the way our Heavenly Father intended for it to be. We have a free will to make choices. When we do not follow God’s word (the Bible), bad things take place. God loves you, I know for a fact. Please take time to know Him, personally, and He will help you understand who He is.
As for B. Obama, may God’s will be done with him. This man appears to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I am definitely PRO LIFE and I believe a baby is created from the moment of conception. A baby is a life, deserving of love and respect, always. If a mother’s life is in danger, I understand that a decision may have to be made to save her life. In that case, the baby should be treated to ensure there is no pain, disgrace or lack of respect given to its tiny life. I say if the baby survives an emergency surgery and is fighting to live, medical staff need to step in and assist the baby to give it every chance to survive and be free of pain. If the baby is born in an emergency procedure and it is obvious that the baby will not survive, then there should be a “Care and Comfort Team” to wrap the baby, hold the baby, soothe the baby and offer the parents a chance to do the same in private. The baby should die in the care/arms of a human.. in peace. A doctor’s oath is to do no harm. I feel the same way about aborted babies. God decides who should live and die, not us.
If these are late abortions done for the survival of the mom, how is it that once the abortion is performed, and the mom’s life is preserved, that making an effort to preserve the life of the child poses a threat to the mom? The child is no longer in the womb, threatening the mom’s health. How is it threatening her health if it by some miracle of medical intervention it lives outside the womb?
Something is fishy about this….
OBAMA, I HOPE YOU READ MY COMMENT, YOU ARE A MURDEROUS,UNCOMPASSION,EVIL BABY KILLER THAT iVE KNOWN. YOU FOOL, ONE DAY YOU WILL MEET YOUR MADER GOD ALMIGHTY.YOU WILL BE FOUND ACCOUNTABLE FOR NOT PROTECTING THE UNBORN. YOU NEED YOUR HEAD EXAMINED. MCCAIN HAS YOU OVER THE COO COO NEST.
who ever voted for that sick man should have to carry an inasint baby in to that room and listen to those babys cry as they lay there and die on those cold metal tabels the only peace that i get from reading this is i know that they wernt alone in that room. God was there with those babys holding them and befor they where born he knew there fate God help who ever thinks this is ok and forgive them for there sins i feel bad for the people who do this and think it is ok i shure dont want to be Them on there judgement day God Bless You and The Unborn Babys
I think that if anyone would do that to there baby that is total cruel.and not only that but a baby is a life from the start that is what alot of people doesnt understand.GOD gives u a baby as a gift they are everything in the world.and these people that does have this life birth abortions done i dont see how they can live with there self that is total gross.and if i was in there shoes something was wrong with one of my childern i would never think about doing something like that i would have the baby .that is what GOD would want u to do and if it is up to GOD after the baby is born and the baby dies that is what GOD wanted but i didnt kill the baby i gave the baby life.i dont see how the doctors can do that babies i guess because some people does not have feelings for life.I think that if someone is going to take a humans life it should be GOD and not man.IT is very sad and i really feel sorry for the babies that have to go through that it breaks my heart to hear story about babies being aborted.when there is people out there that can not have kids and would love to have a baby.give life and dont take life away from our little ones.GOD loves them and u.
I do not believe in abortion…I am pro-life. Every human being has the right to make their own decision AND LIVE WITH IT!! I am old enough and have lived long enough to see people who have chosen abortion, young in their lives. No one ever tells them what HELL they go through after seeing their second, third or more precious babies born. Only then do they truly realize what they’ve done. Asking forgiveness is never quite enough. Someday you’ll see. It’s heart breaking. So painful. It is murder. You can debate this issue all you want….try to justify it…YOU CANNOT!!
